How Joshua Carmona Became a Tech Innovator in Puerto Rico
Before Joshua Carmona became CEO of Score Inc, he was already a precocious kid with entrepreneur tendencies. Devising strategies to raise funds for the things he needed became a part of his life at an early age.
Following their launch of a new office in Puerto Rico to support economic growth fueled by high-impact entrepreneurship, Endeavor talked to Joshua Carmona about his start as an entrepreneur and the creation of Score Inc.
“Ever since I was a kid I was very entrepreneurial,” Carmona said in an interview with Endeavor. “I wanted a pool one time and I sold Icees and postcards. I did that when I was 7 or 8 years old. I employed other people. I didn’t notice it but I was a little entrepreneurial. I just knew it was a way to get a pool,” he added. Carmona attributes this skill to his dad “who was always doing things.”
Years after moving to Puerto Rico from New York, the entrepreneur enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus, to study Industrial Engineering. While an undergrad, Carmona wanted to buy a computer.
“I was always a technology geek. If I could afford it, I’d spend (money) on things that dealt with communications and tech,” Carmona remembers.
He soon found himself taking courses on how to build equipment. By purchasing and reassembling an $800 computer, Carmona sold it for $3,000 and created his first business: selling computers. After two years, he had sold over 150 computers.
Carmona’s further ventures, which included IT and the automotive industries, led him to the creation of Score and ScoreCEO, a software tailored to credit repair business owners.
